Death Benefit and Abuloy Programs

We take this opportunity to remind our members of the important matters relative to the Death Benefit and Abuloy Programs of the Association.

  1. Both programs are upon enrollment of the member and are, therefore, not mandatory.
  2. DEATH BENEFIT PROGRAM
    • The Death Benefit Program (DBP) is a group insurance package underwritten by Philam Life Insurance Co. (“Philam”).
    • MESALA merely collects the premiums from the covered members and remits these to Philam on their behalf.
    • The monthly premiums due to Philam are being paid by the covered members through deductions from their savings accounts with MESALA, as per the authorization executed by the covered members in the Membership Application Form or Updating Form.
    • In the absence or inadequacy of savings deposit or failure of the covered member to pay the monthly premium within thirty-one (31) days after the due date (every 28m day of the month) shall cause the automatic termination of his/her coverage, without need of further notification therefor from MESALA.
    • By express provision of law, non-payment of premiums shall automatically extinguish the insurer’s liability to pay the benefits to the beneficiaries.
  3. ABULOY PROGRAM
    • The Abuloy Progam is a program managed by the Association.
    • Members who want to contribute P 10.00 for every death of a covered member shall enroll to the Program by submitting the requisite Enrollment Form.
    • Said contribution shall be deducted from the savings deposit of enrolled members after processing the request of the beneficiary/ies therefor.
    • Only the beneficiary/ies of members who contributed to the Program shall receive the abuloy either by crediting the same to his/her/their Mesala savings account or to his/her/their BDO or BPI accounts or by cash withdrawal. The abuloy varies in amount depending on the number of contributing members on the date of his/her death.
    • Covered member who fails to contribute three (3) consecutive times because of absence or inadequacy of savings deposit shall be automatically excluded from the Program without prior notice. Consequently, the beneficiaries of the covered members who failed to contribute are not entitled to the abuloy.

The DBP and Abuloy programs are meant to provide immediate monetary aid to the beneficiaries to mitigate the financial burden brought upon them by the death of the member. In this regard, please update your enrollment and payments with MESALA at the soonest possible time to avoid termination or exclusion from the coverage of either or both programs.
